Brahms Complete Symphonies
Symphony No. 4
Symphony No. 2
Cast your mind back to spring 2009, when Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen performed the complete Beethoven symphonies here and it felt as though we were hearing these famous works for the first time as the connections and clarity of this great body of work quite literally made us dizzy. Several seasons later, the same performers offered a foretaste of their exploration of Brahms with the First Symphony. Once again, their sense of story-telling and their skill at bringing out contrasts took us into new territory. The osmosis between the conductor and the orchestra is truly rare. Let’s not stint ourselves and simply enjoy this new complete works to the full.
