A pianist of huge stature, Christian Zacharias has succeeded where most soloists have failed, by moving into conducting an orchestra. Mozart concertos were his first group outing in the early 1990s and he succeed in conducting from the keyboard in masterly style. Since then, he has made a number of excursions into the symphony repertoire, even venturing into the orchestra pit. But he has not relinquished his first love. On this occasion, this intelligent and cultivated performer has turned to Haydn and Bach.
