An invitation to embark on a morning journey through the string quartet repertoire.
Quatuor Jerusalem - DR
Mozart String Quartet K. 458 « The Hunt »
Bartók String Quartet No. 1 op. 7
Beethoven String Quartet No. 16 op. 135 « Muß es sein? Es muß sein! »
The legendary Jerusalem Quartet chamber group, which was founded in 1993 and has won many prizes, notably in the prestigious Schubert competition in Graz, is a regular fixture at the Sunday Morning Concerts. Such is the respect accorded to it by its peers that Daniel Barenboim has lent it the “Sergio Perresson” cello – made by the renowned Italian 20th century stringed instrument maker – which belonged to Jacqueline Du Pré. Their programme is an invitation to embark on a journey, in the company of three composers who have made a powerful impression on the string quartet genre. The appealing Mozart divertissement, which is a model of rigour, chimes with the lively creativity and depth of expression of Bartók, while the final Beethoven quartet reveals the full scope of his humanity.
