Grieg Sonata for cello and piano op. 36
Rachmaninov Sonata for cello and piano op. 19
When a Nordic cello wizard meets an impressive Uzbek pianist, the effect is electrifying. Truls Mork, who has been at the top of his game for thirty years, enchants audiences with his class, elegance and unfailingly radiant performances. Behzod Abduraimov is at the forefront of a generation richly endowed with talent. His naturalness, awe-inspiring technique and the quiet power of his playing make him a perfect partner for the Norwegian musician. The programme has a clear and direct lyrical bent. Grieg’s Sonata, which is a tribute to the fine nobility of the 40-year old composer, is followed by the feverish Rachmaninov score tinged with melancholy, which is contemporaneous with Piano Concerto no. 2, and is the most secret facet of a deeply sensitive body of work.
