A weekend of total immersion in the rich, warm sound of the cello in all its guises from Bach to the present day.
The third concert showcases Alexander Kniazev, spiritual heir to Rostropovitch, and one of the finest contemporary Russian cellists. He will open his programme with Suite No. 5 by Bach, the only work for solo cello in this cycle of concerts devoted to the instrument. This will be followed by Shostakovich with fellow Russian Andrei Korobeinikov and a transcription of the iconic Kreutzer Sonata opus 47 by Beethoven.
