The Modigliani Quartet recently celebrated its fifteenth anniversary with the album Portraits, which the four musicians describe in the following terms: “The idea was to take listeners on a journey via very different composers in a logical and coherent manner. This is a sort of portrait gallery, a genre in which the artist from whom we take our name was a true master.” The artists actively seek out interaction with other musicians and have just taken on the role of artistic directors of the Rencontres Musicales d’Evian, formerly known as the Rostropovitch festival. Tonight’s event, which is a fundraiser for LICRA, will feature their friend, pianist Nicholas Angelich, and star dancer Marie-Agnès Gillot. It offers the prospect of a thrilling encounter between chamber music and dance with some of the finest performers in their respective disciplines.
