Programme

Brahms Piano Concerto No.1 op. 15
Mozart Piano Concerto No. 22 K. 482

This season, François-Frédéric Guy will conduct two Brahms concertos for piano from the keyboard. This is a real musical adventure, delving into some of the most difficult scores in the Romantic repertoire as the piano is powerful yet also merges with the sections of the orchestra. The sense of freedom which emerges from the opening bars of the Concerto in D minor becomes passionate, culminating in a frenzied dance. In counterpoint to this gigantic work, Mozart’s Concerto in E flat marks a new departure for the composer. He carries out an in-depth exploration of timbres and the relationship between the sections of the orchestra and the soloist. The work is an early precursor of Beethoven’s first compositions.
