Mozart in mischievous mode in the “Alla turca” Sonata, but also in the fine tragic passages of the Sonata in C minor and the neglected Fantasy in F minor, the roguish Haydn of the Capriccio in C major, and the more profound Haydn of the Variations in F minor – which is already edging closer to the Romanticism which began with Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach, of whom Mozart said: “He is the father, we are children”. This disciple of Alfred Brendel, the ultimate piano prodigy, breathes life into two of the finest composers of their day in a fascinating game of mirrors.
