Mendelssohn chamber musician and the art of Schumann's declaration of love by the Trio Wanderer.
Mendelssohn Trio for piano, violin and cello No. 1 Op. 49
Schumann Quartet for piano and strings Op. 47
Gold medal tied with Stern-Rose-Istomin! In search of the best recording of Mendelssohn's Trio opus 49, which Schumann immediately understood would "years hence, will still delight our grandchildren and great-grandchildren," France Musique's Tribune des Critiques de Disques singled out the Wanderer's second recording as "the great modern version" in 2015. To celebrate this, the French invited their friend Christophe Gaugué to join them for a quartet. It will be Opus 47 by Clara Wieck's husband, who at first refused to include it in her concert repertoire. Wrong! The piece is considered to be one of the most subtle and refined written during the outbreak of chamber fever of dear Robert, which lasted all that year in 1842.
