    RACHMANINOFF IN THREE BEATS III
    Rachmaninoff
      13 Preludes Op. 32
    Moments musicaux Op. 16
    Sonata No. 2 Op. 36

No more triskaidekaphobia! Do not be put off coming to hear the virtuoso musical feats of Nikolaï Lugansky as he enters the home strait of this unique complete works by a fear of the number thirteen – the number of preludes making up Opus 32 (1910) by Rachmaninov. After the famous Moments musicaux, proof if it were ever needed in 1896 that romanticism was not dead, we move onto a Sonata No. 2 (1913). Our performer this evening, who recorded the definitive version for Erato, knows how to unleash storms, but also how to sing more poetic ideas with appropriate restraint. A difficult masterpiece, perhaps. But definitely not insurmountable
