Theatre (the stage of the Comédie-Française) and love and revenge (two women in love with the same man) intermingle in a dazzling score. Adapted from the fictionalised life of the eponymous leading actress at the Comédie-Française who shone in her day in plays by Racine and Corneille, Cilea illustrates the highly poignant clash of two rivals in the verist repertoire with great verve. Adriana (Tamara Wilson) and the Princess de Bouillon (Clémentine Margaine, an outstanding Carmen on major world stages) are competing for the favours of the same man: Maurice (Brian Jagde). This will be another opportunity to see the Wilson-Jagde pairing which are in the production of Turandot at the Opéra de Paris. A guaranteed top-notch pairing.
