About
The Concours Long-Thibaud was founded over 80 years ago in 1943 by the pianist Marguerite Long and the violinist Jacques Thibaud. Marguerite Long was deeply committed to providing a showcase for talented young performers and gifted all her wealth to set up the first competition and secure its long-term future. Numerous patrons continue to pledge their support to this day. The first competition took place in in the midst of war in 1943, as Marguerite Long wanted to give a sign of hope to young French instrumentalists under the Occupation. The First Prizes were awarded to the pianist Samson François and the violinist Michèle Auclair.
