About
Dido is a chamber opera blending tragedy and comedy in a story characterised by infinite subtlety. Purcell incorporated dances from French opera and placed the emphasis on arias in the Italian manner. Its concision does not detract from the sublime dramatic tension which culminates in Dido’s final lament.
