About
Prokofiev turned his hand to many genres including sonatas, concertos, symphonies, ballet music and opera. The sweeping scale (and huge cast) of his War and Peace earned it a special place in the annals of modern opera, but The Love of Three Oranges is a fairytale inspired by the Comedia dell’arte, which is suffused with humour and was premiered in Chicago in 1921 with a French libretto.
