He may not yet be a household name for Parisian audiences, but the young British conductor Finnegan Downie Dear is already one of the most sought after conductors in Europe. He came to public attention in France in the summer of 2025 in performances of The Story of Billy Budd, based on the work by Benjamin Britten, at the Festival d’Aix en Provence and reprised at the Opéra de Lyon. He is very active in both opera and symphonic repertoire and has been invited by Les Siècles to conduct two of Beethoven’s most popular symphonies.
