About
"For years, Beethoven’s concerto has been my favourite piece to play and listen to; it is a piece that has helped me to mature over time. I began playing it when I arrived in France age fourteen. Certain passages really struck a chord with me and made me nostalgic for my childhood in Serbia. And joyful about my new life in France." For many people it is the “concerto of concertos” and with this opus 61, Beethoven opened a new chapter in the history of the genre. In contrast to the showy virtuosity of some of his predecessors, he pioneered a purely musical style in which he accorded unprecedented prominence to the orchestra; the tutti that precedes the soloist’s entrance is probably the longest in the repertoire. Not to mention those strange but brilliant five opening timpani beats!
