About
It would be every music lover’s dream to have been able to attend the magnificent concert in Vienna on 22 December 1808! Beethoven conducted several previously unperformed masterpieces and made his last appearance as a soloist there. To mark the bicentenary of the composer’s death, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris presents the radiant ‘Pastoral’ Symphony. Well-versed in this repertoire, the orchestra adds two rarer works to the programme. For this evening in 1808, Beethoven had reworked his concert aria ‘Ah! perfido’, which is elevated here by the rich timbre of mezzo-soprano Eva Zaïcik. Méhul contributed to the dawn of Romanticism in France, by helping to broaden the sonic scope of the symphony, much like his contemporary Beethoven.
