About
One of the most venerable symphony orchestras in Britain owes much of its current prestige to Vassily Petrenko’s tenure as chief conductor (2006-2021). He has restored the ensemble to its former glory by refining its sound, and securing it both awards and acclaim from audiences and critics alike. Today, the Swiss-Venezuelan conductor Domingo Hindoyan is at the helm. Equally at home in symphonic and operatic repertoires, he performs at the world’s leading opera houses, including the Paris Opera with Rigoletto in 2024. For this Parisian engagement, he has chosen an unconventional programme combining the Four Interludes from Peter Grimes by Britten, a leading figure in 20th-century English music, with Martucci’s Canzone del Ricordi cycle, performed here by Sonya Yoncheva, and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, with its many wind solos, which resembles, in the composer’s own words, “a lovely symphony of birds”.
