Mozart Paradox Volume II
About
Mozart has been with me since childhood. I heard my mother singing opera arias and my grandfather conducting his symphonies and his Requiem. On the violin (my first instrument) I practised sonatas, concertos and duets; on the piano – fantasies, chamber music and concertos, some of which I have performed in concert in recent years. However, as a jazz musician, I hadn’t ever explored Mozart’s work for improvisation like I had done with Bach, Brahms and Schumann. After immersing myself in the world of Mozart and walking in his shoes for a while, I was keen to record a completely improvised jazz album and to roam as freely as possible through the great Wolfgang’s themes, plucking elements from his huge, diverse and immortal body of work. With solo piano improvisation, every concert is unique and ephemeral, and the prospect of performing volume II of “Mozart Paradox” at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées fills me with joy and emotion.
