About

The Messiah is a magnificent work and undoubtedly the most frequently performed oratorio in the entire history of sacred music. The libretto stands in stark contrast to the composer’s other works in this genre. Rather than presenting a majestic dramatic narrative, the text of The Messiah focuses primarily on the themes of prophecy and meditation. Looking beyond the legendary ‘Hallelujah’, chorus, all three parts of the score illustrate the full splendour of Handel’s orchestral and choral writing.
