About

There’s one thing that has always fascinated me about children and that’s their ability to let two unrelated people or worlds coexist. In La Fille du Regiment, that’s exactly what happens when disparate people from different backgrounds come face to face. And despite its boom tara-ra feel, the story transports us unwittingly from unexpected twists and dramatic turns, towards complex subjects and a variety of emotions. But two countries are at war, foreshadowing a story of forbidden love between enemies. Yet, in this day and age, when we worry about wars around the world, when we play virtual war games, when we can buy war-themed toys at the supermarket, we can’t discuss this issue with our children as we did in 1840 – the year in which La Fille du Régiment was premiered, and when the remains of Napoleon I were proudly repatriated to Les Invalides. Thus, as we journey through this work brimming with unexpected treasures, our production hopes to offer you an experience that is funny, tender and powerful, accessible to all and in tune with the times. A collective and interactive performance inspired by the richness of children’s perspectives and offering a lesson to us grown-ups too.
