For those who do not yet know Martin Fröst, he was described by a critic from the New York Times as having: “a virtuosity and a musicianship unsurpassed by any clarinettist — perhaps any instrumentalist — in my memory” Another indication, the Swede is the first wind musician after Miles Davis to receive one of the greatest prizes in music, the Léonie Sonning Music Prize, which had been awarded to Igor Stravinsky and Leonard Bernstein. Now you're asking for a man! An avid adventurer of all repertoires, Martin Fröst will reveal his enlightened eclecticism and his sense of prowess with an explosive programme, ranging from Rameau to Bartók. The second half of this concert employing the practice of play-direct will also feature Beethoven's Symphony No. 4.
