About

Although the Stabat Mater is authentic, unlike the multitude of apocryphal works attributed to Pergolesi after his death, few details are known about its genesis. This poignant work by a musician who died tragically at the age of twenty-six gave rise to a legend comparable to that of Mozart's Requiem. Tradition has it that the composer completed it on his deathbed. The reality seems to be less 'romantic'. The fame of this work, abundantly published and performed in the 18th century, contributed greatly to its author's posthumous glory. With its arias and duets, the work is constructed in the purest manner of the Italian cantata. The youth and talent of two rising stars of the singing world, Adèle Charvet and Jodie Devos, should bring this mythical work to life.
