About

A titan, a romantic, an almost unknown, a virtuoso violinist: what more could you ask for? It was high time to get to know better the Frenchwoman Louise Farrenc (1804-1875), who was a composer respected by her peers, and even obtained, a rare thing, to be paid like her male colleagues at the Paris Conservatoire where she taught. Perhaps more familiar to music lovers, Schumann's 'Rhineland' symphony was so enthusiastically received at its premiere that the musicians in the orchestra joined in a unanimous 'Hurrah! "to the rapturous applause of the audience. Beethoven's only violin concerto, which was completed in a feverish state a few hours before its premiere, remains one of the highlights of the repertoire and will be the occasion for Antje Weithaas to conclude the evening with the full measure of her talent.
