Established in 2022 by Judith Pisar in memory of John Cage and Merce Cunningham, the Pisar Prize is the result of a prestigious partnership between the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, The Juilliard School in New York, and Villa Albertine, which offers a network of ten residencies across the United States.
The Prize gives a young composer the unique opportunity to spend time in the United States, immerse themselves in its artistic and cultural landscape, and develop a new orchestral work, which will receive its world premiere on Avenue Montaigne.
Following Alex Nante (2022), Christian-Frédéric Bloquert (2023), and Aníbal Vidal (2024), the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées celebrates the fourth edition of the Pisar Prize on October 1, 2026, with composer Elise Arancio. Her orchestral work Hommage au soleil will be performed by Les Siècles, conducted by Pierre Bleuse.
The Pisar Prize is open to composers aged 21 to 40, regardless of nationality, who wish to develop a new orchestral work of approximately 12 minutes inspired by the United States and requiring an immersive stay in the country.
The proposed project should engage with the social, cultural or environmental issues of the territory explored and seek to foster meaningful dialogue with local communities and artistic or cultural figures encountered during the residency.
The residency will take place in two stages:
A 4- to 6-week residency under the auspices of Villa Albertine, primarily in New York
Within this period, a 2- to 3-week residency at The Juilliard School

The new work will receive its world premiere at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées on November 6, 2027, as part of a concert performed by Les Siècles, which the winning composer will be invited to attend.
The composer must submit the full orchestral score no later than August 15, 2027.
In addition to the residency and the opportunity to have their work premiered, the winner will receive a €10,000 prize from the Fondationdu Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.
